EDEYA supports DEYAs and transfers to them experience and know-How

The Hellenic Union of Municipal Enterprises for Water Supply and Sewerage abbreviated EDEYA was founded in 1989 and is a non profitable and non governmental organization. EDEYA is located in the city of Larissa.

EDEYA has 177 DEYA (Municipal Enterprises for Water Supply and Sewerage ) members all over Greece. The Union is run by a seven member Board of Management consisted mainly by Mayors.

The law 1069/80 was the reason why the Union was established. Its purpose is to coordinate the activities of its members and represent them. Furthermore, it assists its members to improve their services in the water supply and sewage sectors.

Up till now, the Hellenic Union has managed successfully to respond to the request of its members. More specifically:

It has claimed reasonable solutions from the State (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Environment and other Authorities ) for the legal, institutional and financial problems of its members. The Union has tried hard to convince the State to give financial support to its members.
Submitted several proposals and cooperated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to replace the law 1069/80.
Submitted proposal for the Water Resources Management in Greece.
Concentrated and transferred to its members information, experience and knowledge related to their activities.
Organized educational programmes, seminars and workshops for the personnel of DEYAs.

The Hellenic Union has established two Commissions, one for the technical issues and the other for the financial affairs. It informs its members about all European Environmental Programmes and participates as partner in relevant projects.

In 1993 the Union became full member of EUREAU (EUROPEAN UNION OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WATER SUPPLIERS AND SEWERAGE).

EDEYA serves as consultant and represents DEYAs to the Greek Government.
